Governor's Bicentennial Bash at the McDaniel Tichenor House

Join the McDaniel Tichenor House for their annual Governor's Bash with a twist.  This year's event  will be celebrating Monroe's Bicentennial and unveiling the plans for the new pavilion on the property.  Tickets are $75 each and includes dinner, live music by Funky Bluester and a live and silent auction.  Cocktail dress is requested.  For tickets and more information, contact 770-267-5602 or

PURCHASE & REDEVELOPMENT OF MILNER-AYCOCK BUILDING

The City of Monroe Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is seeking proposals from qualified developers for the purchase and redevelopment of 116 S. Broad Street, known as the Milner-Aycock building, in Historic Downtown Monroe.

 

This Request for Proposals (RFP) will result in a contract to purchase and carry out the renovation of the stated property as specified in the proposal. The selected vendor will then work with city staff to complete the scope of work.

Bicentennial 5k Road Race

Join us for a 5K Bicentennial Road Race through Downtown Monroe!  Registration is open now online or by mail.  $25 fee until September 24th.  $30 fee September 25th until race day.  Long sleeve Bicentennial themed shirts guaranteed for those registered before September 24th.  Stay after the race and enjoy all of the Fall Fest activities.

Parade & Community Celebration Honoring Javianne Oliver

Come rain or shine!  The ceremony will be moved indoors in the event of rain.  

We watched, we cheered and she won!!  Now it's time to celebrate!  Join us Saturday, September 18th at 10:00 am in Downtown Monroe as we officially welcome home our Olympic Medalist, Javianne Oliver.  Make your own signs or stop by the court house (9:30-10:00) and grab a sign then line the streets along Broad Street from Church Street to Highland Avenue for a parade.   Afterwards,  gather on the lawn of the Historic Court House for a presentation and photo opportunities.
