The City of Monroe community garden is located at Pilot Park at 515 East Church Street which is a little over .25 miles east of downtown Monroe.
What is a community garden?
A community garden is a piece of land gardened by a group of people for the production of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. In 2020, the City of Monroe began a local pilot project with the Community Garden.
This 1.67 acre award winning urban style park is located at 306 South Madison Avenue and will be the anchor for downtown to provide a space for hosting a multitude of events for citizens and visitors to include concerts, theatrical performances, jazz bands, holiday events, orchestras, back to school celebrations, and other city sponsored events. The splash pad has also been a highly enjoyed staple of daily activity during the summer months from Memorial Day until mid-October.
Green Street Park is located on approximately 1 acre and is a little over .8 miles northwest of downtown Monroe at 321 Mayfield Drive. The park has a basketball court and swing set for the nearby residents.
Dennis S. Coker Park, named for Dennis Sanders Coker, is located approximately 1.3 miles southeast of Downtown Monroe, and is currently closed and awaiting complete renovation and reopen to the public. Coker Park was once home to several baseball/softball fields, pavilion, and restroom facility. Sadly, the park was allowed to fall into disrepair and closed due to safety concerns.
