Alcovy River Park

Conceptual

The Alcovy River Park is a future planned park area on approximately 123 acres and is a little over 2 miles southwest of downtown Monroe at 1000 GA Highway 138. This parcel of land was donated in December of 2020 by Reliant Homes to the City of Monroe for the build of a future park.

In 2025, the City of Monroe applied for a grant through the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program (GOSP) by way of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $3.0M with a $1.1M matching contribution. In March of 2026, notification was provided that the Alcovy River Park was selected as 1 of 14 statewide phase I awarded grants through GOSP for the 2025-2026 Conserve Georgia for conservation and outdoor recreation projects. Currently, the City of Monroe is working towards the completion of the phase II portion of the application process requiring extensive environmental studies and analysis be performed of the property.

The narrative for the future use of the park is to transform the 123-acre site along the Alcovy River into a destination for nature-based recreation. The project will provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, paddling, kayaking, camping, fishing, picnicking, and wildlife observation, connecting visitors to the river and its surrounding landscapes. Interpretive signage and the restoration of reparian and wetland habitats through green infrastructure will further enhance the site's ecological health, ensuring long-term conservation while expanding public access.
