Solid Waste

NOTICE: Effective February 14, 2024, the City of Monroe has placed a charge for every mattress or box spring picked up from each residence on their utility bill.  Effective January 2, 2025 new rate for each mattress and box spring picked up is $19.50.

The city provides full curbside solid waste and recycling service to citizens within the city limits of Monroe.  The city also owns and operates a MSW Transfer Station located at 213 Cherry Hill Road, Monroe, GA 30655.  Hours of operations are Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We also handle questions about zoning issues, plan review, code enforcement, and permitting of construction projects. We are available to assist in these endeavors as well. Planning and Zoning Commission

In order to guide and accomplish a coordinated and harmonious development of the city which will, in accordance with existing and future needs, best promote the public health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity, and the general welfare, as well as efficiency and economy in the process of development, the Monroe Planning Commission, hereinafter referred to as the planning commission, is hereby created and established.

Planning and Zoning committee members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council, and serve five year terms.

Utility Department

Purpose

The Monroe Utilities Department is a full service municipal utility provider, offering its customers electric, cable television, broadband cable internet, voice over IP phone service, natural gas, water, and wastewater services.

The Customer Service Department is located at City Hall, 215 North Broad Street, Monroe, Georgia.

Mayor and City Council

Welcome to the City of Monroe’s virtual home.  You will find that our city has some of the most dedicated and skilled employees anywhere. We take pride in offering the best public services available. 

The City of Monroe executive branch of government consists of the Mayor, who is elected, and a full time City Administrator who handles the day-to-day executive operations of the city government. Our legislative branch consists of a City Council of eight elected members.

Finance Department

The Finance Department is comprised of the Accounting, Call Center, Customer Service, Meter Reading and Utility Billing functions of the city. The Finance Department oversees all revenues and expenditures of the city as well as the annual budget, setting the millage rate and annual audit.
