Public Safety and Municipal Court Complex Renovation Invitation to Bid

The City of Monroe will be soliciting bids for the renovation services for a new Public Safety and Municipal Court Complex in the interior of the existing structure on the property located at 140 Blaine Street, Monroe, Georgia 30655. This bid is intended to seek those services with the lowest effective cost approach possible. All bids should meet or exceed the required specifications for requested services as stated in this Invitation to Bid.

Magical Light Display

Enjoy a spectacular Christmas light display nightly in Childers Park!   Admission is free so come as often as you'd like through December 31st.  This is sure to be a Christmas memory to treasure for years to come.  While you're in town, stroll the beautiful streets of downtown to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list and cozy up in one of our amazing restaurants for a delicious meal.  Check out our Candlelight Shopping dates for extended shopping hours and more great activities Downtown!  Parking is available behind the Monroe Walton County Library located at 217

Candlelight Shopping December 16th

Wrap up your Christmas shopping, sneak a photo with Santa, roast marshmallows, go on a carriage and enjoy the beauty of downtown on our final night of candlelight shopping.  Carriage rides are $10 per carriage.  Marshmallow roasting and photos with Santa are free (bring your own camera).

(Please note, carriage rides must end at 8:00pm. We will stop taking riders in line before 8:00 pm. We will do our best to monitor the line to try to ensure all that wait in line have an opportunity to ride.)

Candlelight Shopping December 9th

The magic and beauty of the Christmas season in Downtown continues into December with extended shopping hours and activities.  On December 9th, join us for carriage rides, marshmallow roasting, photos with The Grinch in the pocket park and more!  Carriage rides are $10 per carriage, marshmallow roasting and photos are free, just bring your own camera.  Make sure to stop in your favorite businesses to check off that Christmas list and stay for dinner at one of our delicious restaurants!

Candlelight Shopping

There is nothing like Christmas in Monroe!  Join us for Candlelight Shopping from 5:00 to 8:00 pm each Thursday in November and December.    Cozy up by our giant fire pit on Court Street to roast marshmallows.  Enjoy dinner, drinks or dessert at one of our amazing restaurants before or after shopping.  You're sure to find gifts for everyone on your list at our downtown businesses.  Different activities will be planned each week so check back often or follow our social media for details!

Veterans Day Celebration

Join us as we pay tribute to the brave men and women who so graciously serve this great nation.  The ceremony taking place at the Walton County Veterans Memorial Park will feature patriotic music and messages from local military and the honorable Jody Hice.

Winter Reading Series - Georgia Writers Project

Georgia Writers' Project (GWP) is happy to announce its Winter Reading Series. The Series will be held at the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts, and will host University of Georgia poet and professor Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor and Georgia Poet Laureate Chelsea Rathburn.  The event will be from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

GWA Marching Bulldog Band Performance

Thursday evening on November 14th, the George Walton Academy Marching Bulldog Band will present "La Danza De Los Toros" at 5:00 pm. To recognize and thank the Walton County community for its support for the past 50 years, the GWA marching band will perform its halftime show in downtown on the Historic Courthouse lawn. Stop by to see the show and visit all the downtown shops for candlelight shopping from 5-8 pm.
